Merida has turned into the mother of the pack! She knows the rules and is quick to pounce and bark at a litter mate who is attempting to break them. Before we switched to the taller gate, Merida deemed herself gate monitor and every time Finny or Javy would try to climb out she would growl and tackle them! It was so funny to watch her attempt to keep her brothers in line.
She has truly done remarkable at crate training. She fusses a little bit when we first put her inside and then goes right to sleep. She has never had an accident in the crate and slept through the night for the first time last night. We're continuing to offer lots of praise when she goes potty outside and she eats it up, which is great for house training! She wants to please, so it shouldn't be long before she starts vocally letting us know she needs to go outside so she can receive the praise for taking care of business! It's a process, but she is off to a fantastic start.

Merida is 6 weeks old and is getting cuter and cuter each week. She is a big fan of puppy food... she knows the sound of the food filling the cup and is very vocal about her excitement. She is so playful; happiness just radiates from her. She's an adventurous little girl, full of spirit and love!
Merida was on a mission today! She wanted no part of picture taking. She met her family this week and was a little apprehensive about being without the litter, but she has since decided that being held is pretty nice. The second I set her down, she was scampering over to me or the kids!
We can see teeth breaking through the gums, which means food will be started in the next few days. We also intend to let them explore the puppy pool/hose this week. Pictures of the experience will follow soon! Miss 4 is 4 weeks old and officially half way to meeting her forever family! She is brave little girl, eager to explore and check out the world around her. She is strong and once those ears opened, she was no longer content with the confinement of the whelping box. Miss 4 and a couple friends were climbing out just as fast as we could put them in, so the entire litter was upgraded to the puppy play pen. She seems to be loving the open space and we love getting to have them closer to the family!
She is learning how to play with the litter mates and her tiny pounces and barks are absolutely adorable! We have so much fun watching her play and explore. This week we are looking forward to teeth starting to emerge, experimenting with toys, and interacting more with the humans of the house! Eyes wide open, ears starting to let noise in, and this girl is *almost* ready to take on the whelping box! While she still spends most of her day sleeping and eating, we expect her to add playing with the litter mates into her daily itinerary soon.
Fourteen days have already gone by so fast! We woke up this morning to find little blue eyes trying so hard to stare back at us. She is steadily gaining weight and becoming stronger every day. The notorious puppy scoot is evolving into a well formed crawl and she is making her way around the whelping box with ease.
In the upcoming week, she will continue to spend most of her time sleeping. We are looking forward to eyes completely unsealing and for ears to begin to open! It's been a perfect first week of life for Miss 4. She was found by her forever family, spent all her time alternating between eating, snacking, and cuddling her mama and siblings, and she has already doubled her birth weight!
Coming into week two, we are looking forward to her continuing to grow and for eyes to begin opening! |
